The TeamThe Tommy Hilfiger Accessories division is one of the main business drivers within Tommy Hilfiger Europe. Based in the Amsterdam European HQ, the team is split into 4 sub teams: Design, Production, Sourcing & Development, Buying & Planning and Merchandising & Sales. These 4 teams work together in an informal setting to create superbly styled and high-end quality products for the European consumer base. Tommy Hilfiger Womenswear presents 4 collections per year (Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter).
The Position
Reporting into the Senior Designer, you will collaborate with all team members as well as merchandisers and product developers on concepting and developing bags and small leather goods (SLGs), with the added responsibility of developing 3D CADs.
Key Responsibilities:
Owning the full design process for bags and small leather goods (SLGs), initially guided by the Senior Designer and Design Manager.
Researching trends and taking inspiration from this to produce creative and innovative shapes, details, and finishings.
Work closely with the Global Design Director on planning the range within the brief from the Merchandising team to make best use of factory/fabric resource and offer commercially viable yet exciting and interesting product.
Working alongside the design team, research for accessories in terms of image/mood/seasonal direction to present to the Global Design Director.
Align the accessories collection with other product categories in the company.
Full understanding of technical design and construction, to support technical specifications for the vendors.
Have a core understanding of leather and the manufacturing/making of leather products.
Being flexible and able to work on multiple seasons at once.
Work on fabric/trim development and research with the Global Design Director and PD team.
Illustrator CADs of bags and small leather goods.
Photoshop capabilities to edit CADs/photos of product.
Work closely with the PD team, overseeing proto review process and passing comments on all product, colours and materials.
Generating boards of apparel prints and colours each season and keeping these up to date.
Generating digital Design overviews of bags and small leather goods and keep them updated at all times.
Develop strong cross-divisional relations via regular communication and update meetings.
Support the Product Development team in the briefing of designs to the vendor base (travel may be involved) to facilitate successful development of prototype samples so as not to compromise on design and function.
Assisting design team with design modifications after each development stage.
Preparing digital and hard copies of seasonal colour cards.
Compiling handbag sample archive and logging newly brought samples.
Supporting the design teams with presentation preparations.
Ensure all the technical specs are saved on PLM before deadlines.
Providing necessary information on any style or colour related changes through updated design overview sheets.
Assisting Senior Designers with saving all the technical specs on the shared drive.
The Ideal Candidate:
Fashion design degree, ideally in accessories design or product design.
Minimum of 3–4 years of accessories design work experience, specifically in bags and SLGs.
Expertise in Photoshop, Illustrator, and high capability in the use of 3D design software.
Fluent in English, excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
Able to provide product direction and make product decisions.
Able and flexible to travel overseas and work in a multi-cultural environment.
In-depth knowledge of colour, concept, materials, and trends specifically tailored to the accessories market.
Ability to work in a creative environment, handle pressure, and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines, while delivering high-quality work.
Strong hand sketching skills with an understanding of scale and perspective.
Strong team player, yet able to work independently when needed.
Embrace a hands-on, active, problem-solving, open-minded, dynamic, fun, and fast-paced environment.
Fluent in English, excellent communication skills written and verbal.
