The Department & Team
The Product Development team is responsible for the development of the product, from initial concept through to physical and digital shoes and delivers high quality, innovative and sustainable products while delivering on company & divisional KPI’s. We closely collaborate with other product development divisions to align processes and ensure efficiencies and partner with a number of stakeholders: design & merchandising, through to supply value chain, buying & planning and global teams. This role plays an intricate part in delivering the brand DNA.
The Position
As a SENIOR PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST FOOTWEAR, you will engineer innovative and high-quality products, adhering to the product development timeline and aligning with the company's business strategies. You will ensure products meet or exceed predetermined margin targets and communicate specifications and details to the sourcing organization. Collaborating closely with design and merchandising departments, you will establish clear goals for development expectations and product standards.
Responsibilities
Works with the nearshore/offshore sourcing offices to control the status and changes to the styles, follows up on deadlines for proto samples, lab-dips, salesman samples, and production approval samples.
Plans and tracks the development schedule of all products to ensure a timely completion following the predetermined product development calendar.
Develops products, recommends materials, and construction techniques that meet Design expectations and meet or exceed predetermined margin targets.
Ad hoc tasks such as meeting preparation, analysis and supporting business projects related to product, process and business requirements
Coordinates and ensures that all the systems are updated and matching as per internal information (PLM etc).
Ensuring accurate cost estimates and price targets are achievable to meet and/or exceed target FOB.
Work with the product merch team to clearly understand product attributes and consumer benefits and create product that meets these needs from a performance, fit, comfort, and costing standpoint.
Leading and influencing the development process to achieve commercial viability of designs through partnership and collaboration with Product Design, Materials Development, Product Merch team, Costing, Product Testing, Commercialization, Production and Quality teams.
Liaising with cross-functional departments to provide Development support as needed, facilitating cross-departmental problem solving.
The Ideal Candidate
Minimum 7 years working experience in sourcing and development of Footwear.
You have an Undergraduate Degree OR equivalent industry training, certification, or related business experience.
You have valued input to product costing.
Strong knowledge in PLM.
You have a comprehensive understanding of design intent, product aesthetics, construction, production and fit.
Used to working under pressure with deadlines. Is organized and structured.
Ability to think out of the box, solution orientated and pragmatic.
Excellent communication, presentation and negotiating skills.
You have a complete understanding of the product lifecycle process - from ideation to consumer
You have an extensive knowledge of raw materials (especially leather), technical construction, and sourcing.
Good command of written & spoken English, with Italian/Portuguese/Mandarin Chinese skill will be a plus.
