My name is Yulia, a master student from TU Delft. I originally came from Lysva, Perm region, it is a small place in the middle of Russia. I made the decision to move to the Netherlands six years ago, to get a master’s degree from a European University, seeking new opportunities and opening my mind. With a background in fashion design and a passion for technology, I pursued a career that combines both fields. This led me to join PVH, a leading fashion company, where I am currently doing my internship as a 3D Transformation Coordinator.
During my internship with the Supply Value Chain team at PVH, I had the opportunity to actively contribute to the digitalization of the fashion industry. With daily mentoring and support, I expanded my software skills and gained valuable insights into 3D material digitization and process management. Working closely with the team, I learned about 3D garment design and played a role in maintaining and expanding the company's 3D libraries. It was a fulfilling experience to share my passion for 3D design and development while contributing to the company's growth and reducing wastage in production. One of the individual projects I worked on during my internship was the "Prediction of 3D Fabric Physics through AI". This project aimed to accurately classify and identify fabric physics using advanced algorithms and machine learning. It was an exciting opportunity to combine my passion for technology and fashion.
The people I worked with during my internship played a significant role in my growth and success. My manager provided invaluable guidance and support, encouraging me to take ownership of my projects and providing constructive feedback to help me improve. Additionally, my colleagues within the Suppy Value Chain team were always willing to share their knowledge and expertise, creating a collaborative and supportive work environment. Their mentorship and assistance helped me overcome challenges and develop new skills in 3D design, software development, and project management.
One event at PVH that I thoroughly enjoyed was "Ask Tommy," a remarkable gathering where individuals had the incredible opportunity to ask questions directly to the legendary fashion icon, Tommy Hilfiger. The event fostered an engaging and interactive environment, allowing participants to connect with one another while delving into the creative mind behind the renowned brand. Witnessing the exchange of ideas and the genuine enthusiasm shared by both Tommy Hilfiger and the attendees made it an unforgettable experience, leaving a lasting impression of inspiration and admiration for the fashion industry.
My favorite spot on the PVH campus is the booth with a view of the water. It offers a serene and picturesque setting that provides a sense of tranquility and inspiration. Sitting there, overlooking the water, I find myself immersed in a peaceful environment that allows me to gather my thoughts and find creative inspiration. The view serves as a reminder of the beauty of nature and its potential to influence design and innovation in the fashion industry. Whether it's during a break or a moment of reflection, the booth with its captivating view is my go-to spot to recharge and find inspiration.
The biggest learning from my internship at PVH is the power of collaboration and effective communication. Working in a multidisciplinary team in an international environment, I realized that the success of a project heavily relies on the ability to work together and share ideas. By fostering open communication and collaboration, we were able to overcome challenges more efficiently and achieve better results. This experience has shaped my approach to teamwork and taught me the importance of building strong relationships with colleagues to drive innovation and growth in the fashion industry. The individual AI project I worked on further enhanced my technical skills and deepened my understanding of the intersection between fashion and technology.
