The Team
The TH Lab division is a dynamic division dedicated to creating elevated tier one collections and runway shows that represent the pinnacle expression of the brands identity as well as leading exciting collaborations with external partners.
Based in the Amsterdam European HQ, the division is split into sub teams: Design, Sourcing & Development and Merchandising & Sales. These teams work together to create brand moments that build brand awareness, credibility and drive desire for the entire TH brand.
The Position
The Design Lead for Runway & Collaborations is part of the TH Lab team and is responsible for designing and executing styles across multiple product categories and projects, with a primary focus on the seasonal RTW collections (TH Collection) and Runway. The role also involves working on a variety of diverse projects, including collaborations with external brands and organizations as well as celebrity custom dressing and ABO’s.
The Design Lead has a deep understanding of their product area and works closely with the Design Director to create creative, commercially viable product that embody the Tommy Hilfiger WSW brand identity across all projects. The ideal candidate demonstrates exceptional taste, drive and confidence, complemented by a contemporary handwriting and strong sketching skills.
A thorough knowledge of the premium and luxury market segments is essential, along with an intuitive ability to integrate relevant trends, shapes and fabrications into the collections whilst ensuring the Tommy Hilfiger DNA is consistently reflected.
The Design Lead will partner with other members of the Design team as well as Product Development, Fit and Merchandising to create strong cohesive collections and capsules that align across product groups with clear storytelling reflecting season concept ideas.
Key Responsibilities:
Source and present creative research as well as identifying trends that work within the Tommy Hilfiger brand strategy, translating these into product in line with the seasonal concept direction.
Design across product categories with confidence and a luxury handwriting as well as an understanding of the brand DNA.
Take ownership for concept to end creation of key product categories / or project dependent on brief.
Use Illustrator or hand sketching to confidently communicate design ideas and create detailed CAD sketches, overviews and colour ups.
Preparing all sketches (2D & 3D) for divisional digital presentations and to focus on the follow up of each style.
Attend and participate at key milestones such as proto review, style outs, show prep.
Work to overlapping calendar deadlines.
Prepare all selected and confirmed styles to be digitalized, with garment worksheets and PLM completed to a high standard for sending to joint venture and buying offices globally
Working closely and communicating daily on challenges and changes that arise during the development of styles. Partner with the Product Developer to ensure a smooth work flow each season
Understanding and sourcing qualities, washes, trims and details that fit in the Tommy Hilfiger aesthetic. Partnering with sourcing teams.
Drive process with the Design Team to align design aesthetics, seasonal details and creative big ideas
Work closely with Tech and Product Development teams on garment fittings, based on block systems and new seasonal complex styles. Ensure all styles are to the highest possible standard and help find solutions to any problems that may come up during the fitting process
Responsible to follow up on selected sourcing and fabrics each season with the Product Developer and Fabric Manager. Supports and partners with the Product Developer to execute each style, making sure that the Tommy Hilfiger DNA is seen in every garment
Work well in a team environment, utilizing strong communication skills.
The Ideal Candidate:
7+ years of experience in Fashion Design, ideally within Tailoring runway.
Some experience working on brand collaborations, special projects and celebrity dressing a plus.
A Multi Product Designer.
Graduated at a degree level or equivalent
Excellent computer skills (Illustrator/Photoshop) & hand-drawn skills
Business English fluency (both written and verbal)
Ability to translate trends into a commercial collection with a contemporary handwriting
High level fabric knowledge across categories, plus a strong technical understanding of fits and constructions
Able to work in a highly productive, fast-paced environment with a hands-on mentality.
Proactive approach to the working environment, able to lead with expertise & knowledge for the needs of the team – build guide and mentor.
Highly organized with the ability to handle multiple seasons and projects simultaneously.
Ability to travel within Europe for supplier visits
A hard working, organized team player, that is a great communicator is essential.
