Woven Shirts and Textile Designer - Menswear, Tommy Hilfiger - 1 year FTC

The Team

The TOMMY HILFIGER Menswear team sits within the greater PVH campus based in Amsterdam.

You will be designing for the Hilfiger lifestyle brand, presenting four collections annually in partnership with Production, Sourcing & Development, Buying & Planning and Merchandising & Sales.

The Position

This Woven Shirts and textile designer position requires a candidate with a strong understanding of the shirting category and woven textile design. They will aid the development of shirting fabrication through patternation and textile design as well as overall product design. Whilst continuing to elevate the shirting product through silhouette and design.

The candidate will work closely with the Design Manager from the initial concept part of the season to design and drive key textile and pattern. To bring to life the concepts briefed by the Design Director, ensuring clear storytelling and themes fitting within brand relevant collections.

They will report into the Design Manager and will partner with a team of designers in the creation of the collection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Researching and identifying trends that work within the Tommy Hilfiger brand strategy, translating these into product and fabrication in line with the seasonal concept direction.
  • High level fabric construction knowledge of woven qualities, plus a strong technical understanding of silhouette, construction and finishings.
  • Understanding of easy weave to create textile designs.
  • Translate trends into commercial collections together with the Design Director.
  • Working to the Divisional Calendar to meet deadlines.
  • Be able to work to a commercial Range Plan each season, collaborating with the Merchandising team on best seller management, essential product, and seasonal newness.
  • Preparing all sketches and CADs for divisional presentations and to focus on the follow up of each style.
  • Work in collaboration with Senior Shirts Designer to deliver exciting and brand elevating collections.
  • Prepare all selected and confirmed styles to be digitalized, with garment worksheets and PLM completed to a high standard for sending to vendors.
  • Working closely and communicating daily on challenges and changes that arise during the development of styles. Partner with the Product Developer to ensure a smooth work flow each season.
  • Understanding and sourcing qualities, trims and details that fit in the Tommy Hilfiger aesthetic.
  • Work closely with Tech and Product Development teams on garment fittings, based on block systems and new seasonal complex styles. Ensure all styles are to the highest possible standard and help find solutions to any problems that may come up during the fitting process.
  • Responsible to follow up on selected sourcing and fabrics each season with the Product Developer.
  • Supports and partners with the Product Developer to execute each style, making sure that the Tommy Hilfiger DNA is seen in every garment.

The Ideal Candidate

  • 5+ years in a similar role, for a commercial fashion business.
  • An understanding of textiles, garment making & fit.
  • Excellent eye for colour, detail, and proportion.
  • High level of awareness and knowledge of current and future trends.
  • Strong grasp of sustainable fashion solutions and material innovation.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge in Adobe especially in Adobe Illustrator.
  • Able to use easy weave.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
